lil question about PSP for a noob
January 26th, 2020
iv’e been wanting to purchase a psp 3000. (from the reviews, i get the sense that PSP GO isn’t GOod)
i’m not going to spend money on buying games for the console, so my question is: do i need to install a chip on the psp to play games i’ll download here?
thanx

As long as the firmware is at or older than 5.03 you can mod it to play downloaded games. As far as I know there’s no way to know what’s the firmware before buying it and checking the menu so if it’s newer than 5.03 you’re screwed and have to buy games. My advice, if you don’t move around a lot get a real console like an Xbox360 or PS3, you can find both at close to the same price as the PSP, I got bored of my PSP after two weeks, there are only three games worth playing imo (Loco Roco 1,2 and Rock Band Unplugged)
You’d be better off going to a local cash converters and buying a second hand 1002 or 2002 – some of them are even pre-modded for custom firmware. AND you get to see if it is and if it has whatever firmware version # on it.
Buying new means you don’t get to see it before you buy it.
(personally, I didn’t like my psp – I had a fully CFW’d 1004 with a shed load of games (5 dvd’s full) and I sold it on EBay and bought a dsi xl – never had so much fun now. Psp was rubbish!)
PSP is waste of money.. i had one earlier and i sold it.

I’ve bought mine when the first was released and still use it. You can play ALL the games of the previous consoles (N64, SNES, … including PS1!), there are great games released on PSP (GTA, MGS, FF7 CC, …), the scrreen is great to watch movies etc in plane or train
