The Image button is amazing!
Faster in what sense?
For the most part, it depends on your hardware, so telling us what you’re working with would be the logical place to start (funny how that word keeps coming up when you ask questions, isn’t it?).
Answer #2
Like mention above it depends on hardware. Obviously if you have quadcore cpu any OS will fly on that. If you have a single processor CPU you must stick with Windows XP for better performance. If you have dual core or better go with W7.
Answer #3
I like you. Your funny, I would love to smash a pc over your head and tell you whats logical .
Anyhow heres some specs:
Intel Quad Core q8200 3.22ghz
4GB Ram
Nvidia geforce 9500gt 1GB
Anything im missing out just let me know
Answer #4
All that high end hardware with a less than basic knowledge of computers?
Amazing.
Windows 7 x64 will FLY on your machine. XP’s functionality + Vista’s prettiness.
Answer #5
and by faster what I mean is will my pc run smoother. Will apps open quicker? Will games run smoother?

Those questions are based (for the most part) on your hardware, not your OS. That said, I’d say that you won’t notice a significant increase in speed when opening apps (has to do with amount of RAM used + hard drive speed) or games running smoother (CPU speed + GPU play a role in this).
At any rate, with the components you have, there is no reason you SHOULN’T be running Windows 7.
Edit: Windows 7 will run just fine of your computer regardless of architecture. The only reason you’d want to use x64 over x86 is because you’ll be able to utilize the full 4GB of RAM you have rather than the ~3.5GB that you’ll be limited to with an x86 based OS.
Edit 2: Why not just download a copy of Win7 Ultimate x64 from here?
Answer #8
Ive downloaded a couple of windows a while back and had problems with activation and some other stuff. Thats why I dont want to download it. I got the 32-bit 7 ultimate on my table from work for free. Its a promotional cd.

Quick question. How much ram on idle does ur windows 7 use?
On my 4GB setup on X64 os, approximately 1GB on idle. On a long term basis, the 7’s kernel is obviously better than XP’s one.
So 7 will remain faster if both system is exposed to usage for a long time. But file copying, XP is always faster.
Answer #11
Why is xp faster in file copying?

Why do you need to to know his specs? The op was asking which one was quicker not one which one was quicker on HIS pc

i use win 7 now and this is how i see it. In the overall speed xp wins when navigating the desktop and messing with files. But it has much more power stored for situation outside that- There aint no hang time (for me that is). If something gets messed up and i cant do anything. Well CTRL+ALT+DELETE will always open at least after 5 seconds. Xp Sometimes has a hard time with this-. So yeah like i said. this is how i see it. I think xp might be faster. (not that much that you would realy notice it. ) But win7 has more power to make up for it. Take it like this. Xp is a Kenyan runner with 30km/t. Win7 is a russian tank- 25km/t and crashes through walls which the kenyan has to climb. haha I overall just like win better. AS for gaming. Works fine. im a geek i game alot. havent found anything it wont run.

I thought it is much faster… Or maybe its because it doesnt bug at all…
