Is there anyway to install windows without using a cd drive?

August 1st, 2016

THIS IS WHAT I HAVE
I have a legit copy of a windows xp sp2 cd. + an image i made of it
1 laptop which has a non functioning dvd drive
1 internal cd drive with IDE TO USB CONNECTION
1 TB HARD DRIVE
1 Desktop pc
I need to reinstall windows (thus need to format hard drive) but there is no way i can find to do this The IDE to usb connection doesnt seem to work *says malfunction* and no drivers seem to work
People recommend changing the jumper settings but i have no idea what it is
I made a partition of my internal drive to install windows on –
1) mount image with daemon tools
2) enter serial etc it then restarts
3) goes to setup menu and ASKS FOR CD
Has anyone got any ideas to A) install windows via the ide to usb connection
B) install windows via an iso image file
C) install windows via the network?
Thanks in advance

Answer #1
You can install Windows XP from your USB.
Copy Windows XP CD ROM content to the Flash Drive
Simply issue the following command to start copying all the content from the Windows XP CD to your newly formatted high speed flash drive. xcopy d:\*.* /s/e/f e:\
D: === Windows XP CD Drive
E: === USB Drive
Change according to your system And that’s it. Boot up the machine, have it boot off the USB drive, and watch how fast the installation completes.

Extract all files from ISO image and put it in a folder named WINXP on external HDD. I think your USB Drive size is small, that’s why copy MSDOS files in it. http://www.allbootdisks.com/downloads/Disks/MS-DOS_Boot_Disk_Download47/Automatic%20Boot%20Disk/Dos6.22.exe
Copy all files to USB Drive. Boot the USB Drive. Dos will start.
Go to the drive depending on your drive structure.
Let’s say, your external HDD is F:
Then type the following commands when you boot up a DOS from USB.
F:
cd WINXP
cd i386
winnt.exe
That’s it. Windows XP Setup will start.
I have tried this way when i has 98 and no XP CD.
Good Luck.

If u download a “performance” edition of windows, it will be smaller than usual.. say 170 MB..
Do you have a 256 mb usb stick?
Answer #12
Thanks but it'll only work for floppy disks
It should work with USB too. After all its just booting process.
