Install Windows xp sp3 without cd-drive/Floppy/USB

August 4th, 2016

Hi, I have a 1.3 GHZ Compaq Presario M2000 notebook on Win XP sp2 OS which has crashed… The problem is, when i tried reinstalling the OS , the CD Drive could nt read the CD,perhaps the drive has stop functioning (since other OS CD’S , even new ones are not workin on it).. The Boot order gives just 4 options – Floppy disk drive, CD ROM Drive,Hard Drive and Network Adapter.. Since there is no slot for option 1,option 2 is nt working & option 3 -N.A. I was wondering if there are other ways of installing OS using LAN or through another PC having win 7..
p.s BIOS Version F.22;Can t boot from USB OR External CD Drive as it is nt showing that option in Boot order .. HELP PLEASE !
Thanks for the time..

The only easy option I can see is try and get another CD drive. Read this if you want to but it’s a big job.

That article is for win2k but xp is pretty much the same thing.
Answer #2
Get a different CD/DVD drive or use a different disc and burn the ISO with 4x burning speed
Answer #3
I already have an external CD Drive .. is it more that i can do with it since the boot order does nt have an external CD Drive option..
Answer #4
I didn’t say external. I said another. Replacement. eBay or your local PC shop may have one or be able to supply.
Here are links to the maintainence and service manuals for that model. It’s easy to change.

It will be worth it in the end. Don’t mess around unnecessarily.

I get that u didn’t say external.. But since i have already bought an external unit for all my office PC needs , i thought there must be a way out with it..Trying the LAN option.. Thanks for your support .. cheers !
Answer #6
Tried the LAN option to no success .. is there really no other way ?
Answer #7
Just because you don’t have a bios setting to boot
from USB it doesn’t nessiarly mean it doesn’t support
it,Try actually hooking up a flash drive and see whether it appears on the boot order.
You might be surprised!
Answer #8
@ : USB option did nt appear when i plugged it in ..
Answer #9
One last cheap option is try a laser cleaning kit. Might only be a bit of junk stuck on the lens…

Then just do as suggested,Replace the internal
disc drive.

Maybe it’s recognising the USB as another HDD?
Try changing the order of HDD’s to boot from and see if you can find the USB there.. Happened with me on my Lenovo S10e.

Hmmm… You need to download usb driver, and you can find it on this great release
http://www.google.com?t=6878369&highlight=
And install this driver…
Universal USB Driver 2: Panasonic v2.20 ASPI Manager for USB mass storage (Dos Freeware)
Try to install it when you still in windows from command prompt.
Restart.
Enter BIOS.
Option 2: Try what said. Maybe is that also.
Good luck.
