Ipod CLassic 160GB Sound Quality
August 7th, 2016
I just got the Ipod Classic 160GB and the sound just sucks, no bass at all and very high pitch.
I have tried setting the equalizer, but it just distorted the sound quality and also tried using different ear buds, like my Logitech Headphone (which I am using at home) and Sennheiser CX500 earphones, and still no bass.
Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Russian
I haven’t had any sound problems with my 160gb ipod. Keep messing with the eq until you find something decent.
But the equalizer distrots the music, so I start hearing noises at the background, btw what bitrate should I play the songs at, maybe thast the problem?
well, maybe it is the songs you play .
I tried all kind of songs, from 128 to 320 kbps
this may seem desperate but you can update the IPod software. i doubt it will fix it but you can try it. also, have you tried using another earphone???
Ask The Shop Which sold u maybe if it is damaged to repair it for u.And if u can post a video with a song which your ipod plays to see.

Sorry, I didnt understand the last part.
Anyways, to be even more accurate, I am comparing the Ipod Classic to my Sony Ericsson W810i Walkman phone, with same earphones, and the sound from my phone has a very rich bass. While the ipod classic has this “hollow” sound.
Is your Ipod 2nd hand?
Nope, bought it yesterday, arrived today, but I cannot return it because its unsealed =S
Install Rockbox firmware, or you can choose to spend some money to get the parts changed. Check out iMod:
www.redwineaudio.com/iMod.html
Rockbox is a great firmware. You can play videos on ipods that the apple firmware doesn’t allow it to. (I know because I’ve used it)
Not to mention all the roms and games, wallpapers, themes you can get. Updating the firmware MAY fix it, as sometimes they change stuff like the features
Rockbox doesn’t work for 6G ipods. Update to the latest firmware, do a reset, or bring it back to the store and say it’s messed up.
Thanks for your replies guys, but all those custom firmwares and mods apply to all ipods except the Ipod Classic ones (6th generation).
Try a better set of headphones… Cheap headphones will sound ‘tinny’…

legally they are required to take it back because it is damaged regardless of weather it is opened or not
Sony do a great range of headphones with superb bass – Try any of these:

Ditch the CX500s and get a pair of Sonys.
Maybe put some lossless files there and check them, should sound a lot better
by the sound of it (lol), it sounds like a fault with the ipod, take it back, get it fixed under warranty
If your headphones are working fine in other devices then it is a fault with the ipod itself. I have the same ipod with sennheiser headphones and get really good bass. I would recommend always using 320kb files and checking this way. Even if the device isn’t sealed you can return it if the device is faulty and you are not to blame. I would get in touch with apple if I were you – or the shop you bought it from.
Good luck mate!
