iPad 3 charge via computer only !

January 26th, 2020

Hi guys,
Usually most people complain why they cannot charge the iPad via a USB connected to the computer; however, I have the exact opposite problem I can charge my iPad 3 when I connect it to my iMac only, however it does not charge when I plug it via a wall power adapter !!! I tried several adapters, several USB cables and different wall sockets however it does not charge whatever I do. I also tried restoring it to its factory state and this did not solve the issue. The only way I can charge it is to connect it to a computer !
any ideas what might be causing this ? I hope its not a hardware issue ?
Thanks
iPad 3, iOS 8.1.3

Maybe it is charging but it simply don’t tell you. The ipad can’t block current, if there is it will charge. If the ipad is not charging then maybe it’s the ipad’s pin damaged. On the ipad’s port there are various pins. Wall sockets use only the charge pin when PC ports uses various pins. I think that your charge pin is damaged and so you need to change it or you need to do an hack to redirect the usb pin but I discourage you to doing so.

Try it with a genuine iPad charger or one that has been proven to charge an iPad..
iPads can require higher capacity chargers than phones,
You could try a bit of cleaning..

If you have trouble or don’t want to buy an Apple iPad charger, you can go to an Apple store and try it there.

I do have the charger + cable that came with the iPad and its working perfectly, I tried charging a different iPad with it and it have proven to work. I can say know at this point the issue is not from the charger its from the iPad pins as you said. I tried cleaning the pins which looked clean even before I tried cleaning it with a toothpick and still cannot charge from the wall (only computer).
If you guys have any other suggestion please advise, other wise I will go a head and replace the iPad dock connecter.
Thanks

If you have a multimeter you can check the pin’s health.

Just had a mates older style Samsung phone.
It would charge on a PC’s USB socket OK.
It would charge on my Android’s charger OK .
It would not charge at all on this generic charger I had..
The reason it worked on the Android charger was that the data pins were shorted together.
Did the same thing(to a cable) and the other charger would work OK then.
It obviously needs the data pins joined together, or the data pin conditions that apply on a computers USB socket.

Or simply grab a cable and do it to that…
