Interview Attire help?

October 15th, 2013

So I am applying for retail stores such as Macys, JC Penny, zumies, etc and was wondering what would be a good outfit for my interview? I already know that I should wear slacks, and black dress shoes with black socks of course. I don’t know
what color tie/dress shirt should be worn. I was thinking of black dress shirt/ white tie? or white dress shirt and a black tie?

Answer #1
You’ve missed out the black dress matey …. got to get the coordinates matching!!
If by chance you’re a guy, go in a suit with shirt and tie. Just look the smartest you can even if you don’t feel very comfortable dressed up like a tailors dummy.
Black shirt, white tie …….. Ahh yes! You want to go dressed as Al Capone!! …. Don’t forget the wide brimmed hat and the violin case with the machine gun hidden inside.

Retail interviews are often a bit less formal that other sectors so either combination should be fine but I’d go with a white shirt and black or very basic tie if you have it. It is likely that this is the same clothing you’ll need to wear while working and while a black shirt would not cause any problems, it isn’t the traditional business attire which is nice to wear to interviews.
If you are looking at any other combinations, don’t be too worried about including pastel shirts (but avoid loud colours as they often make you look less professional) or coloured ties (but make sure the tie pattern is not too busy).
Good luck with the interview

Well I do hope that they hire me because I have very bad communication skills with knowledge for words. I am more used to using slang in my language which is a huge downfall.

It’s good that you’re conscious of that though. Too many people go into interviews and don’t realise how much slang and informal speech they use. Try to keep it in mind when you are speaking and actively try to avoid lapsing into slang too much but also try to avoid getting too worked up about your speech.
If you are worried, try going through a mock interview situation with someone (parents, friends?) to help coach you a little before the interview. That worked great for me when I was going for my first job interview.
Answer #5
Yo blood!
Don’t worry about your speech matey. Concentrate on being positive and enthusiastic ……. smile a lot and ask questions. Most of all though LISTEN to what the guy is saying and even if you don’t know the answer just blag your way through. If you can try to latch onto something the guy likes talking about (football, women, whatever) and go with the flow.
Best of luck!!

Don’t cuss directly at any of the interviewers but feel free to use derogatory, inflammatory or even vulgar remarks towards your potential future companies rivalries.

too add mate…… if they ask you, what are your weaknesses as some do, turn this into a positive, so say I am more used to using slang in my language, however, I am learning fast as I am a fast learner, and I have no problem In communicating in more than one language. remember turn any question they give you into a positive, I am a interviewer!! another thing to remember is that you cannot not communicate, meaning body Language communicates too, remain eye contact! study the job and come prepared..

Yeah, much better IMHO
Good luck.
Just try to be as confident as you can, interviewers with any experience will take any anxiety you are showing into consideration.
