Installed old version of ubuntu can i update?

so i have a laptop here and i have installed ubuntu 7.10 on it can i update it without having to download the iso and install it can it do a update like windows computers do

No.
Download an fresh Install but never try to update it. I mean Backup goes easy these days, so wait some days till 11.10 comes out nd download it.
But never update it like that, even 11.04 Update wont do upgrade all the files. An Fresh Install is allways better.
