I want to set up a Virtual Recording Studio -but…

August 7th, 2016

I need some advice on how to set up my PC for music production. I want to set it up as virtual as possible – yet capable of outputting pro or near-pro results. I’, like to be able to do this without hooking up physical instruments – everything except my vocals will be created directlyon the computer.
The problem I am having, despite the ocean of advice on the internet, is breaking it down to the best applications for my goals. Sure, I am familiar with FL, and I like Reason, I hear Orion is good too – but is that what I need? I don’t mind a multitude of apps, if that’s what it will take, but I just can’t figure out what the optimal configuration should be.
I’d like to be able to create Rap, R&B, Pop and techno. I need the flexibility of being able to either create whole compositions from scratch, or if I need to, create loops. I’d like to also be able to record vocals and do “whatever” to them as well. I hear there are even programs that will take vocals and make music out of them. Obviously I need virtual instruments, editors, post-production tools, vocal tools – but I have no idea which ones to choose! Can someone help me set up my virtual studio (advice)?
