I wanna buy a new laptop but is now a good time?
July 28th, 2013
I’m in the market for a new machine since my Dell served me for over 6 years now. My Inspiron 6400 battery is dead (and its the 4th or 5th one) I also realized that its so heavy and bulky, and its becoming annoyingly slow.. etc.
I want to buy a new 2012 laptop and I need the following:
1) backlit keyboard.
2) at least an i5 core processor or i7
3) 6GB or 8GB of ram.
4) 500GB or more since SSD is STILL so expensive!
5) 14 to 15” bright screen. Full HD is a plus
6) lightweight and sleek thin design.
7) good battery life.
8) HDMI, webcam, built in mic, USB3.0
Price range $800 to $900 before tax
I was considering a Mabook Air but when I saw that the 13 inch starts from $1299 I was like F that, that is just ridiculous! so I was thinking maybe a Mac Mini but not sure if its a good HTPC for me. maybe I’ll build one and just research how to Hackinotch it.
The important question Is now a good time to buy a new laptop? because I’ve read that soon new processors (thus new laptops) are coming out but is it worth waiting few more months and maybe paying a little more?
Any bad laptops to stay away from? Any good laptops you bought/know about? Any thoughts? Any good deals out there? please share something!
Computers just get cheaper and faster the longer you wait. Buy when you need, and not any sooner.
I would personally recommend an ASUS laptop, I know others that swear by HP.
If you do gaming, look for something with a 560M, i7, 6-8gb ram and a 7200rpm hdd if possible.
Other than that your fine with 4g of ram and an i5. Keep in mind most mobile i5’s are dual cores.

lmao, don’t do it; you been warned…
Yeah, I heard Asus and MSI laptops are good. I don’t do gaming but its a possibility, so I don’t want my laptop to lag when I play games like Call of Duty or say “Error reading”!
HP from what I’ve heard got way better than before, and when I was browsing their site I liked their new Envy Beat edition series, and its considered one of my options, though with the specs I’m looking for, the price could jump over $1200 and thats too much for a laptop nowadays!
Thanks for your input

not worth it huh?
EDIT: this Asus looks good!

“Back in the day” Acer brand everything was really crap but in the last, I don’t know, maybe 5 years they have been putting out very good quality merchandise at really decent prices. I have 3 24″ acer monitors and I bought an Acer laptop for a friend and I have absolutely no regrets.
EDIT: for example (the laptop I bought for my friend)
•Intel® Core™ i3-2350M Processor (2.3GHz, 3MB L3 cache)
•6GB installed memory
•1TB hard drive
•17.3″ HD+ Widescreen CineCrystal™ LED-backlit Display 1600 x 900 resolution, 16:9 aspect ratio
•8X DVD-Super Multi Double-Layer Drive
•Multi-in-1 Digital Media Card Reader
•1.3 Megapixel HD Webcam (1280 x 1024)
•6-cell Li-ion Battery (4400 mAh), Up to 4 hours of battery life
•Intel® HD Graphics 3000
