You need to know what type of ram is compatible with your motherboard before deciding what to but…
Use one of those 2 APPS..take a screenshot and post it:

more than likely to get the full potential and you may be upgrading to DDR3 as well
but ram is cheap these days and PC2-5300 is a mid-range speed
and get 2 sticks the same to maintain the dual channel function
and another thing is your current ram is running below spec (318.1 should be 333)

No point in that gpu, it will get outdated and you will need a new one. So why spend so much on a card that will do that? Its overkill as well, all you need is a HD 4850/70 to play the latest games- no need for a high end card better will come, save up for it

dont need it for games, my main concern is Photoshop and autocad, im not buying new card every year
Answer #6
GeForce GTX 280 1GB GDDR3
That will run CAD great, but your right in the upgrade of ram.
But TBH the processor is going to hold everything back.
If it’s just light CAD work, (ie no super structures!) you will not need a card that good.

I plan on upgrading everything but need some ram and the new grafix card for now! the way I see it since Im going to to be spending $300 -400 for a card might as well put in a couple more hundred and get a decent one.
Planning on easing into it but overall if I get a nice motherboard (or can I use my current motherboard) and cpu how much am I looking at? not counting ram and the geforce card
Answer #8
Don’t quote me on this but i think a new mobo is the best place to start, that will make sure everything is compatible, but wait for some of the expert computer builders around here, I’m sure they will be glad to help you out…
Answer #9
for just CPU and mobo you can do an intel setup for around $300
a E8400 CPU and a P35/P43 chipset based mobo
and if your mainly doing cad/3d rendering look into the nVidia “Quadro”, a card designed mainly for adobe & auto-cad
