I cant play mpeg in quicktime *mac* i cant register

i need to edit mpg files and i urgently need the codec
but i dont want to pay for it
can anyone please assist.. i need the full version of quicktime pro apparently
i have quicktime on my mac but its not the pro version
and i cant find a link to install the full pro version.. i have itunes/quicktime installed and just need that codec
i’ve done a search and found a serial method to make it pro, but i can’t find the register option in my version of quicktime..
please help
