If you don't have any useful input to add, please don't post at all. Thank you.
Use Ethernet wherever you can, This frees up the wireless network for devices that don’t have wired lan.
You don’t need a router upstairs just a wireless bridge.
You could setup 2 routers and wirelessly bridge them like so:
http://www.cyberciti.biz/networking/howto-connect-two-wireless-router-wirelessly-bridge-with-open-source-software/
Or as mentioned, you could use a Wireless bridge in the room(s) upstairs. For gaming purposes, you’d be better off using a wired connection to minimize latency. You could bring all your devices together using a LAN switch if your modem doesn’t have enough ports for all the connections
Thanks for the tips! I did not know you could bridge the connection with a Wireless bridge upstairs, for some reason i think that any sort of router must be connected to a modem in order to work..I assume the ‘Bridge’ would pick up the wifi from the router downstairs and spread it across the upstairs..
Could you be a bit more specific about the house?
How many floors is it?
What materials are the walls are made of? (wood+drywall, blocks and cement, 100% cement)
Would you say it’s particularly large?
To be honest, A single router with good enough antennas will probably do a good job (unless the house is super-sized or made of 100% cement)
I have two wireless boxes in house.. Depending were you is what you connect to. I have a Ethernet cable coming out of the first box into the ceiling across house plugging into box B … But you could try a wifi extender I installed one of these in a friends house and it worked great
