How to make images having transparent Background?

Hey friends, I have to make the images which is having the transparent background… just like the phpbb logo or anything which takes the anything as a background… means suppose if i’ve putted that image on other image… that other image should look like the background of this transparent background image!!!
I cant explain in more details… i think you guys have got what i have to say!!!

Grab the majic wand tool, click on the white and hit delete. I think thats what your looking for.

After you delete the areas that you want invisible (make SURE of it, doublecheck) then click on File > Save for web
then you have to choose between GIF and PNG formats, afaik those are the only formats that support transparency (well, most common formats)

transparent PNG’s do not work in IE6! I think they work in IE7, but i do not know.
