How to edit a DOSBOX.conf file

December 11th, 2013

im trying to improve the graphics on an old game running in dosbox.
i was told to change the dosboxGK.conf file (GK stands for the game i’m trying to edit).
i coudlnt open this file, so i took a gamble and set it to open with dosbox.
that didnt work, but now on properties, i cant change it back to not be set to open with anything.
I have to choose something in place of dosbox now.
1. how can i set it to open with nothing.
2. how to i open and edit it?
thanks

Answer #1
open it with notepad. as for the association, i think you have to tinker with the registry. anyone else?
Answer #2
thanks for the first part
the second, i’ll try to sort out sumhow.
does it even matter tho? would it affect proceedings in anyway if i left it?
that was my main concern of course
Answer #3
no, dosbox’s internal structure will still point to dosbox.conf, or in your case dosboxgk.conf
no problems.
Answer #4
cool
i managed to get a registry entrry put in my registry that un-associated all my .conf files anyway tho
just to keep things neat
thanks
