October 16th, 2013

Hi Friends,
I jst Copy Songs from Cassette to PC & it has lot of hiss .
Please tell me some Tips to make them Listenable…
[I recorded it from Sony’s brand new Cassette, CD & USB Player. I use it’s Headphone to PC’s Input.]

Answer #1
Download Audacity… For tutorial.. use Google!
Answer #2
If the hiss is from a bad cassette player, wires, or sound card; then you are going to need to get better hardware.
If the hiss is from the cassette its self, then there is not really much of anything you can do about it.

There are audio restoration tools available.
Adobe Audition has an excellent plug-in bundle built in for cleaning up cassette and vinyl record recordings.

It is likely you are getting unwanted noise from this connection. You are sending an amplified signal into a line level input. Also, regular sound cards are terrible for recording.
Answer #4
There are various audio restoration programs that exist. I’d suggest downloading Audacity and/or ACID, but read up on some tutorials before doing so.
Answer #5
If it’s not original work, think whether it is worth the time and effort messing around with it because it would be easier to download the tracks in digital form.
The same can be said for VHS tapes, it’s generally not worth the time and effort unless it’s original and no other formats are available because you only end up with inferior quality trying to convert it.

Read the Help files for Adobe Audition’s Noise and Hiss Reduction. It will show you how to create a noise profile from the “silence” between audio tracks. Then load the noise profile to apply the reduction. Don’t overdo it with the settings. Applying too much reduction will cause unwanted artifacts.
