How do you prevent your bank details being robbed
January 30th, 2020
Only buy from secure, trusted and recommended websites…
What details? Accessing your homebanking or are you referring to your credit card information?
As for the first case (homebanking), just make sure that your PC is malware free (this is the most important thing). A keylogger it’s your worst enemy.
Also install a good firewall. Never, never, never give your access information.
Not by e-mail, not by phone, not through a form (except the login one on your bank’s site), not even if you receive an e-mail from Jesus Christ itself!
Your bank has the ability to see your login information if they want to, they will never ask your for such information.
Regarding to on-line shopping with your credit card. Well, if you intend to use directly your credit card, you just have to trust who you’re buying from.
In this case, the best policy is to only buy from who you trust (companies like NewEgg for example).
If you are not sure if a website or company are effectively safe for you to buy from, try recurring to well known online payment systems.
Through these systems, if who your buying from tries to scam you, they will only be able to steal the amount you transfer to them (and never gain access to your credit card information).
I’m talking about Paypal, for example. If you use Paypal, you can be always rested that your credit card information won’t be by any means spread through the Internet. This is, ultimately the best policy when buying online.
And I think that’s about all…
You can never be 100% certain as you don’t know what security measures are taken by the companies you deal with. But look for some security accreditation and be certain that any transactions are carried out over an SSL link (padlocked or other browser indication).
Ensure your system is clean of trojans, that is probably the most important thing. A lot of people spread Trojans on sites.
Browsing with your web browser sandboxed can be helpful as it prevents the system getting infected by just visiting the wrong site. Use good security software and Anti Virus. These things should rule out a lot of risk factors.
