How Do I Unlock iPhone 3G?
August 1st, 2016
A friend of mine has an iPhone 3G that he needs to unlock because he has switched carriers.
He has iOS version: 3.1.3
Baseband: 05.14.12
Any guides that are tried and tested to work, or better yet any personal instruction, is very much appreciated.
Jailbreak, install ultrasn0w.
Jailbreak, install ultrasn0w.
He couldn’t connect to a network after doing that. From what I’ve read it’s because of his baseband version.
And according to this post;

He must have a specific bootloader version to downgrade his baseband version, to then jailbreak and install ultrasn0w. Correct? Or am I reading into the wrong things?
you can’t. your baseband is too high of a firmware…
atleast let us know that you upgraded to 4.1 and then downgraded…

I would, if I knew that’s what this person did. This is not my iPhone. At least let me know that you didn’t read the original post Anyways, I’m going to try upgrading to 4.0, than downgrading the baseband. From what I’ve read, the result will depend on the bootROM version. We’ll see.
You won’t be able to upgrade to 4.0 (or 4.0.1, or 4.0.2).
Your best bet is to go into Cydia and try the FuzzyBand baseband downgrader. It will tell you whether or not you can do it, and you can do it right from the app.
I doubt that is possible to downgrade your baseband. Once you’ve upgraded your baseband, and you didn’t save the system files from the pervious baseband you won’t beable to downgrade to the old baseband. you’re pretty much SoL.

100% untrue.
The iPhone 3G (possibly 3G[S] and 2G as well) can have its baseband downgraded under certain circumstances.
