How do I access WBB from UK. It’s blocked.

July 26th, 2016

I’m sure it’s been asked before but a search gave no definitive answer. .org is blocked by the big internet providers in UK thanks to government etc.
My current ISP is very small and doesn’t block sites but it’s slow and expensive so I want to switch (good price for high speed fibre now). However I don’t want to be unable to access WBB.
Do the proxy sites found on Google still allow access? What about VPN’s like Cyberghost, Hotspot Shield, OpenVPN? Just want to be sure before I switch.
Thanks in advance

You can try Virgin Media..Possibly the best cable privider in the uk..And with the new https it does not block wbb..
And yes..It’s been discussed in the following topic with 40 pages of replies:

Thanks, I’ll go read that topic. Virgin Media isn’t an option as there’s no cable where I live.

I’m on Plusnet and it’s blocked for me also so I use the Firefox free plugin called ZenMate (VPN) and that gets me on here from Germany (It works just great and you can enable/disable it easily with a left mouse click that pops up on the Firefox tool bar).

A huge thanks for this SaturnSid as it’s Plusnet I’m planning to move to. Would have done it a couple of months ago if it wasn’t for worrying about being able to access the “blocked list” sites, so it’s very useful info, thanks.

PlusNet are owned by BT but act independently of them and they buy their broadband from BT Wholesaler (not sure that’s the right name). I’m about to enter my fourth year with them and overall I’ve been totally satisfied. I’ve had a couple of issues in that time with the connection but both those were problems at the BT exchange and not PlusNet as such. They sorted both problems out within a day of me contacting them so that’s not bad customer service compared to some I’ve seen on the internet with other companies.
I only have an 8k connection which is good enough for me so I don’t know what their fiber fast broadband is like. When you get in touch with them (and every year you renew your contract) be sure to ask if they have anything better they can offer regarding cost etc because they are open to negotiation on price and stuff (but they don’t tell you that). Paying for the phone line using a once off payment for the whole year makes it cheaper as does ringing them up for a cheaper deal on the broadband (although they do ask you to commit to something like 18 months to get the cheaper monthly price).

I am unsure on the rules about posting external sites for help – will still code tag it – but Whirlpool is a very useful site for all things internet in Australia (and if your after an above the board VPN, and proxy) – if you find a good thread about netflix (and skip all the seadbox stuff) then you should be able to find some useful details
