How can I reindex an mkv file?
July 31st, 2016
I have a matroska video file (an HD rip) that is having some issues. It plays perfectly, but I can not skip around in the file. I have had a similar issue with an old avi i had, and all i needed to do was reindex it. I am running linux and i have mkvtoolnix installed, but I am not sure how to use it to reindex the file. I also have a windows box available if someone has a windows based solution for this problem.
Thanks for the help!

you probly need to demux (separate video & audio) then reindex video & remux the file
see if mkvtoolnix has a demux option, if so demux then find the codec info on the video and google “re-index <codec> file”
gspot might give you codec info, google gspot, it’s free
thanks, ill give it a shot!
