Host File Trick-Need Final Word
February 7th, 2020
I have had this in my host file since the trouble last fall: 119.42.146.34 www..org
119.42.146.36 www..org
A search now of how and what to use brings up these:
119.42.146.34 .org www..org
or
119.42.146.36 www..org
119.42.146.36 .org
119.42.146.34 .org www..org
or
119.42.146.34 www..org
119.42.146.34 .org
or
119.42.146.34 www..org
119.42.146.36 www..org
119.42.146.34 .org
119.42.146.36 .org
And this:
You need to put one IP not both. 34 or 36. Its always been the 87 IP the other 2 IPS bypass the DNS server.
So I have the following questions:
1. Is it true only .34 or .36 is needed but not both?
2. Are both addresses needed? www..org and .org or just one?
3. If both are needed which is best, each one on a separate line or one like: 119.42.146.34 .org www..org
Which example from the choices above should I use?
Thanks
I Need to have this:
119.42.146.34 www..org
119.42.146.36 www..org
If I move one of them I can’t access .
That works for me.
I’ve had this in my hosts file since October last year.
119.42.146.34 www..org
119.42.146.34 .org
No idea where I first came across it, or why I started using it. But it seems to work for me.
Host file = ONE entry per line ONLY
Always have 127.0.0.1 localhost as THE first entry
Use # as a comment character to add descriptions if you want them or to remove an entry from the file without actually deleting it (see my WBB entries below)
# Hosts file
127.0.0.1 localhost
#87.251.154.134 www..org
#87.251.154.134 .org
#119.42.146.34 .org
#119.42.146.36 www..org
# Block programs
127.0.0.1 licensing.ultraedit.com # the 127 entry redirects the call to the url back to localhost, so nothing happens – great for advert servers!
127.0.0.1 activate.adobe.com
These will NOT work:
119.42.146.32 .org 119.42.146.34 .org (too many entries per line)
119.42.146.34 http//:.org (NO to the http part of it)
#119.42.146.34 .org (the # make it a comment not a hosts reference)
119.42.146.34 .org .org (this MIGHT work, but the second wbb entry is unneeded)
I use these host entries for :
119.42.146.34 www..org
119.42.146.35 www..org
119.42.146.36 www..org
119.42.146.37 www..org
119.42.146.34 .org
119.42.146.35 .org
119.42.146.36 .org
119.42.146.37 .org
You shouldn’t need Hosts entries for now.
Your DNS server should automatically direct you to the main server 87.251.154.134 in the Russian Federation.
It was during problems with a different server that it became easier to enter via the old server in Hong Kong…Which is..
119.42.146.34 www..org
119.42.146.36 www..org It is still active, so you can try that in your Hosts file if need be.
Make sure you only put 1 IP at the time not 2 or more…That just confuse things..
You just have to try 1 at the time until you find out which one work…Just change the last IP number from 4 to 7…
Thanks for the help everyone! All makes sense now.
There’s a official thread for the host file.
