Home Theater Question

October 30th, 2013

I am looking at getting a sound bar, because the audio from the TV’s aren’t worth a crap anymore. The TV is in my bedroom, it’s a 42″ LED Hitachi hooked up to normal cable TV and an HDMI connection to my computer from which I regularly watch movies and TV shows. I would like to be able to listen to both the regular cable and the computer through the sound bar. I can’t think of how to do this. Is there a certain type of switch I have to get for this? How can I set it all up to work for both purposes?
The sound bar I’m looking at getting is the Vizio VSB200, which has 2 RCA and 1 s/pdif input:

Oh and also, is HDMI input important? Should I look for a sound bar with HDMI input?

Answer #1
s/pdif & HDMI sound are the same, both digital
do you have s/pdif out on either the TV or the PC ?
otherwise just connect thro the 2 sets of RCA jacks
you can convert a headphone jack to RCA with a “3.5mm stereo to RCA” adapter or cable
Answer #2
If your TV has an s/pdif output, then connect that to the s/pdif input on the soundbar and then all sound that goes to you TV speakers should also go to the soundbar.
Google…..Vizio VSB200 2.0 Sound Bar user manual
Answer #3
Awesome! That is exactly what I needed to know. I have an s/pdif and RCA output from the TV. Thank you!
