Home Network Computers Can’t Connect to Each Other

August 21st, 2017

heyal,
i have been going nuts trying to fix this network connection so i can do transfers between the two computers etc i have a home network with now only 2 computers:
1 Desktop
1 Laptop

BOTH systems running windows 7
== desktop – ultimate
== laptop – premium
they are both joined in the same workgroup as well as both are joined to homegroup
now i finally got to the point where u can now see the other pc in the network listing…..BUT desktop can’t connect to laptop but both can now see it each other in network view
:::: ERRORS:::::
LAPTOP
InValid Path — Permissions you may not have permission to join
Possible that laptop is not allowing incoming connections
—maybe blocking incoming connections
—possibly due to firewall
—drivers not updated for networking
::::FIX ATTEMPTS::::
LAPTOP
Firewall – windows firewall is disabled,, i have kaspersky pure which has its own firewall using only one so there are no conflicts [like that mattered lol]

    made sure all necessary protocols, and networking files were available and in automatic mode thru “services”
    created user on for each computer [laptop has desktop user logon – desktop has laptop user logon]
    added both to list users and with permissions granting them both access to all shares folders files drives etc..
    made sure that firewall wasn’t blocking either of them from either computer
    checked adapters and protocols all was good

**NOTE**
the network connection 2 miniport which i never paid any mind to but didn’t even realize it was there suddenly disabled or wouldn’t connect to the internet, i thought this may have been the initial problem but searched and researched to finally find out that is used to give capabilities of using more than 1 network connection ex:: going from home connection then going to a cafe and being able to switch to that hotspot, also can use as a host for others to use it as a hotspot…down fall? its work in progress and hasn’t been finished AND can cause your computer to switch back and forth to other connection in your list “auto connect” partial fix is to go through ur network list and UNCHECK all the auto connect on other networks in list! helped that was when it finally could connect to desktop..or so i thought!
NOW WHATS WEIRD
laptop was already able to connect to wireless printer and print with it, worked fine so i left it alone haven’t tested it after all this but was listed in network view
i removed laptop from homegroup and then joined it again and thats when i finally got it to connect to desktop and was transferring a file …well as i thought but it didn’t go through but hey there was a bit of hope it was finally connecting ….. now…nope ::::DESKTOP::::
:::: ERRORS:::::
was able to finally see the laptop thru the network view but still when trying to connect it would error:
path was wrong
no permission to access this location! could finally see drive letters in network view but… error would be same if i attempted to open directory
::::FIX ATTEMPTS::::

    made sure all protocols were active
    turned on some of the network services that were previously set to manual or disabled
    adapter settings were fine
    added a user acct for the laptop on desktop
    added laptop to list of users and gave permissions to access desktops files directories or drives
    added other drives and again added laptop to user list with permissions accordingly
    made sure homegroup sharing was setup on both computers
    made sure that in homegroup that the share files were not password protected which was the recommendation

NOW WHATS WEIRD
when clicking on homegroup only page that would open was to change settings.. seemed as if it didn’t want to save settings but it would say that this computer is part of the homegroup but would wouldn’t give any other options have always had to go to “network” to make any headway.. now this may be a normal thing, i just kinda got frustrated with it **UPDATE**
tried to see if laptop could connect to desktop again and again it shows up in network and now all the shares are listed in on both systems but error msg again shows up when trying to open laptop :::ERROR MSG:::
*i will put image of errors below*

Have you checked the router configuration?
You should also try with the administrator account.
Answer #2
Kaspersky setting if I remember correctly.

heya hun thanks for the reply
well an update:::
windows firewall does NOT completely turn off when u turn it off in settings
it shows home/private network connected tried to disable completely but then things screwed up
it does however say that ALL INCOMING CONNECTIONS ARE BLOCKED!
for the life of me i can’t figure out how to fix this tried starting services policies everything so i’m truly frustrated like pig trapped in a pen
so if yal can tell me how and where to go from there that would be a great starting point
thanks!

heya hun thanks for replying but can u be more specific?
i’ve checked kaspersky and nothing is there that would alter it
i posted an update on s post its coming from windows firewall thats where it shows the status
i’m so stumped…
please let me know how to change all incoming connections blocked setting
thanks again!

Check if the firewall is corrupted. You can usesfc /scannow
For a relatively quick integrity check.
Next run this diagnose tool to fix problems not fixed by sfc
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/mats/windows_firewall_diagnostic
Now the firewall should work again. If the fix doesn’t work there is another more intrusive way that I will show you in case we have no luck.
Answer #6
Before messing about with your firewalls try something more simple.
I’m only saying do this because not once have you said you have entered the password that windows gives you when setting up a home network so each computer can actually connect to each other. Yes you can still view all computers on the network but without this password windows will not let you access the network.
Remove both computers from the network turn off your router for a min or so and then follow these steps.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/setting-home-network#1TC=windows-7
Ps… Those pictures are too small I can’t work out what errors your actually getting.

To make sure it isn’t a firewall problem you can always boot into safe mode with networking.
Boot the PC into safe mode with networking option
http://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=content&id=SOLN2268
Boot the laptop normally.
See if they connect.
If they don’t connect try it the other way round.
If the problem is still there then try booting them both in safe mode with networking and if the problem is still there then it’s definitely not a firewall issue and is a setup issue where you will need to remove both devices from the network and start all over again with the connection.
Also like I said previous those error images are too small and we can’t see the actual errors your getting.

Hey,
my guess is that both PCs are not password protected.
please try to have both PCs with a user and password to logon the system, then try again to access the share.
let me know please.
