HL2 E2 – Source Engine Update Needed

February 6th, 2020

Hey guys, I searched the forums for a solution to this problem, and I couldn’t find it. Maybe you guys can help though.
A friend of mine downloaded The Orange Box for me, released by some ‘xtreme55 guy. (His releases can be found here: http://rapidlibrary.com/index.php?q=xtreme55)
Anyway, the package works fine (Portal, HL2, and HL2 Episode One), except for Half Life 2 Episode Two, where at the end of the 2nd chapter, the game crashes and gives me this error message: The instruction at “0x10628f3f” reference memory at “0x0e45f3c0”. The memory could not be “read”.
And from then on, I’m unable to keep playing, and thus unable to complete the game.
I googled the error, and it seems a lot of people get it. This is supposedly fixed by a Steam Source Engine Update, from November 26, 2007 (viewable here: http://www.steampowered.com/platform/update_history/index.php?skin=0&id=420 ).
Since I can’t access Steam, how can fix this problem? Is there a place to get the updated source engine files and install them manually? Or am I doomed to waiting until I can afford an original Orange Box?
