Help with openSUSE 10.3

February 3rd, 2020

I am a windows XP user and am interested in switching to linux. I have tried Ubuntu 7.10 but did not liked it very much. I was over on distrowatch.com and saw that openSUSE get the next highest hpr rating after ubuntu so I am about to tryout openSUSE 10.3 KDE version.
I had problems in Ubuntu as I wanted to uninstall the totem player. As i executed a code in the terminal that i found on the ubuntu forums, a lot of dependent packages got screwed and many other applications stop working. I saw a video on youtube showing the installation of openSUSE installation and it seemed that it lets u select the software packages manually. I want to know if there is a safe way to uninstall programs without screwing up other programs in openSUSE… Thankz!

Hi. Opensuse is much more user friendly. When you are installing you can select which packages you want, just select on the software link under partition when setting it up. Take the tick out of the box for anything you don’t want, and if there are any conflicts it will tell you. I’ve been on opensuse since 10.2 and have never had any problems removing anything. Just use the software manager for installing and uninstalling software in opensuse then you don’t have to worry about problems using a terminal
