Help with online community

November 30th, 2013

Hi.
I have been wanting to do this for a while now, but have had trouble deciding on what I want to base the comminty on.
I have decided on a Gaming community for all consoles and game genres. A little bit like Machinima (If you know of this).
I have chosen this sort of community because its big at present time and alot of the worlds population are interested in this sort of thing.
I was just wondering if anybody has any past experiance in this field and are willing to share any hints and tips on how to get this up and running, and how to advertise for staff positions, sponsors and so on.
I already have the forum software and a guide to what I will be posting on this forum, Im just stuck on the things mentioned above.
I have decided the name to be Specialist Gaming Community or SGC.
Thanks for your help in advance.

Not wishing to put you off or anything, but there are already plenty of well established forums like that.
I do have plenty of experience in helping set up forums Photography, Warez, and other things against the rules here, which are highly popular.
Have another think about other types of Communities that interest you, and would interest others before comitting yourself

I’d have to agree with gilly here, there are many well established specialised gaming communities out there, forums are generally a saturated market.
Keep in mind that you’ll need experience with PHP and MySQL, not to mention hosting and domain costs to start a forum.

I totally agree with both of you. I made the mistake of not researching this typical community. I do have experiance with PHP/MYSQL, Hosting and that sort of thing as I have had websites and created them in the past. I will have a hard think about what I want to do and update you both, then let me know what you think .
Thanks for your help.

Try thinking of something different. If you do, don’t post it anywhere… someone might steal your idea.
