I read that three times and I forgot where I was for a half hour and stuck a donut into my dvd drive. Switch from Windows 8.1 to 7. You also sound like you either have a very old laptop or your laptop is not ready for 8.
But I am not sure what exactly the problem is.

What is the hardware ID of your wireless card?
You may also need to uninstall Windows update KB:3004394
If you have issues regarding failed updates or device drivers not working, make sure to uninstall this KB as it also prevents future updates from installing (as the signature appears to be corrupt if 3004394 is installed):
Open a command prompt with admin rights and type
wusa /uninstall /kb:3004394
Restart system and all is good to go again.

I have Windows 8.1 Enterprise installed on a very old 32 bit PC and it works perfectly with KMSpico as the activator. When I install or reinstal any OS I always make sure I have the necessary hardware drivers first by using Aida64 to get the details then going to each individual manufacturers site to get the drivers. With those saved on another partition I have no problem installing them.
As for your network card, try to find out what chipset it uses then go to the chipset manufacturers site to get the drivers. I have a Korean manufactured network card but it uses a Ralink chipset so I go to the Ralink site for my drivers.
