you wont really find a answer on the internet…b/c you need a code and you wont find it on youtube videos or on a site w/o paying for it…you need to do what i did with my att blackberry curve…call your provider and tell them your going to a different country for vacation and need your phone unlocked…they did it for me…trust me they will give you the code…dont mention anything about using a diff sim card etc..

no b/c I live in the USA and when I had t-mobile I was in Germany even though they had t-mobile my phone didnt work…
b/c unlocked phones work in diff countries where thy might use a different frequency…which is why when you buy a unlocked phone off ebay it will tell you all the frequencies it runs on so you know if it will work in your country…

simcard has nothing to do with it…its your phone and what bands it runs on…i can put a simcard from vodafone in my USA blackberry and go to the Uk but if they dont use the 1800 band im screwed no matter what sim i use there
EDIT-they wont charge you money for a code…call them and tell them your going to a diff country and you want it unlocked so you can put a pre paid card to use in the diff country…

Just tell them your going to USA fr school for a few weeks and want it unlocked since vodafone doesn’t exist there so you can use a pre paid sim card

Are you referring to CDMA? Because you need a whole different chip for that – otherwise @OP
You will be charged no matter what, if Google cant anwser you then your gonna have to cough up.
