HELP connecting to new Wireless Router

December 23rd, 2013

Hi
I just bought a new router (netgear) but I’m having trouble connecting to my broadband. What do I need to do to get it connected?
Thanks

So what have you actually done so far?? What error (if any) are you getting?
Answer #2
Are you on cable or adsl?
is it a standard router or a combined adsl router/modem?

You will probably have to start by plugging your computer/laptop into the router with an ethernet cable. Open your browser and enter in your router’s address to bring up the configuration page (will be the default gateway on your active ethernet adapter, Win+R > cmd > ipconfig), then enter in the default or provided username and password. From there you will be able to setup your wireless settings. Change the SSID to something unique then choose WPA2 security and create a secure password, minimum of 12 character, preferably 20. Save your settings and you should be good to go. Connect to the network you created with the password you created.
EDIT: My bad Roberto =(

I asked for the specifics so I could provide an accurate answer instead of 2 different ones for each case,But guess I’ll have to now.
If your on cable and it’s a standard router – Do as above but also define the connection type to automatic, dynamic ip or dhcp and clone your mac address or customize it if the router allows you to,And in case it isn’t fairly obvious,You have to connect your router to the modem via the WAN port.
If your on adsl and it’s a combined modem/router – The process is more or less the same,Except that you’d need to define the connection differently and pick your ISP from the list then input your user/password (You’d have to call em on the phone if you don’t have em handy,Do note that they won’t give it out without the last 4 digits of your credit card)
Edit: Don’t worry about it SmAsHeDr,It’s not a biggie!

You can’t assume his router is preset to one those 2 addresses. It could be anything man. Why are you posting this rubbish?
You can find your router’s IP by plugging it in to your computer and looking at the default gateway of the network adapter the router is connected to.

Netgear you can usually get to it from

I won’t bother with any more input in the thread until the OP responds, don’t want to confuse the issue
