Help Compress Video File Without Quality Loss

August 8th, 2016

im trying to fit a whole season on 1 dvd but most seasons are just over the dvd size. ive seen dbz files that are 55mb and had great quality with three audio tracks. im wondering if i can do the same with shows like 30 rock, House, and The Shield. i want to make shows that are 175mb into 100mb and 350mb into 200mb. is it possible to do this without losing quality?
Answer #1
Best chance you have is to convert it to .mkv files. But most dvd players won’t support this. So you will always have to convert to dvd files meaning you can’t put an entire season on 1 dvd.
The reason shows like dbz are so small, is because of the fact that it’s much easier to re-encode cartoons. Besides, it’s not like a dvd costs that much compared to buying the actual dvd box.

i use either xbmc (wich plays almost anything) and ps3 (wondering if i should start using TVersity) so im not to worried to much about the type. as for the dvd usage, its not that i dont want to make 2 discs its more that i hate it when i burn something and its 5gb and now i have a disc with one episode. and split 5 g on 2 dvds is just as bad.
Answer #3
Well, if you are sure it can play it, mkv is your best option.
Answer #4
ps3 plays mp4 with h264 video

right now im using Xilisoft but i dont think it converts to mkv. can you recommend a program? also i tried converting the videos to ps3 files but it made the file bigger(im new to this so most likely doing it wrong)

a good program to do this is megui, but it’s not really a simple program
you have to experiment a little with it
