Heatsink too big?

August 1st, 2016

Thanks for reading, cause it’s sorta long!
Well, I built my Gaming rig a month or two ago. With the parts I bought (MOBO, CPU) I also ordered a Freezer 7 Pro for better cooling when I Overclock.

Well, long story short I didn’t know how to install the heatsink I bought.. So I just installed the stock clip-on AMD Heatsink, and am using that now.
So I FINALLY figured out, after all this time that you have to screw the Heatsink to the black thing they gave you, lol. So I screwed it on, turned off my PC, opened it up.. And noticed where my Heatsink is now, it’s supported/clipped onto an orange thing.. I don’t know the names of them, so I’m calling them things.. Here’s a link to my MOBO, where you can see what I’m talking about.

So I was looking at it, and figured I needed to remove the orange one and put the black one that the Heatsink came with.. But before I even took it off, I noticed the black thing that came with the Heatsink, is larger than the orange one.. And I would only be able to screw it on from 2/4 places on the MOBO… Which I don’t think is right/good?
Any help please, I’m still new to Hardware.

Answer #1
don’t screw the black thing on, use the “lugs” to clamp to orange thing

Answer #2
Thanks for reply, ed. I checked the orange thing, and it doesn’t look like there’s a place to sit the lugs/screw em’ on..
Mind bringing the mobo pic into paint or something and circling where I need to clamp the lugs on?
Cheers
Answer #3
you check the lower of the PDF I posted ?

they go on the short spaced ends on the orange thing
Answer #4
After removing the stock cooler, clear any remaining thermal paste. Fit the metal lugs provided on the shorter sides of the orange thing, (parts facing pci slots), and screw the heatsink on the lugs. (Lugs should fit like these)

Btw sorry for the late reply.
Answer #5
Thanks for reply, man. But my Heatsink doesn’t look like that, it has no latch. It juts came with a black bracket, 2 screws, 2 holders (in that pic) and the heatsink of course.
Answer #6
Your mobo’s shorter sides have 3 bulges and you have the metal holder, right ? The holders should fit on the bulges and you should screw the holders to the heatsinks sides.

you did not get these latches ?
that’s what you need and don’t use the black mount
just connect them to the orange mount
Answer #8
I eventually found out how to install it, and successfully did it.
Thanks for the help, guys.
Answer #9
