HDMI cable Gold or Silver?
July 23rd, 2013
not for regular use there isnt. get the cheap one,.
the signal being digital, there is no need for “special” cables
the cheapest will work just fine
Gold is a better conductor than silver, so it is theoretically better. Whether this is practical or visable difference? Not unless you have a couple thousand dollar home theatre setup.
$150??? I’ve seen gold hdmis for under $20.
yeah $150 for gold is overcharged, they should only cost a few bucks more than silver one.
for 150 it would need to be made completely out of gold and not just gold coated.
either way it really doesn’t matter, far more important, the HDMI cables revision (if you have a 3D TV, the older HDMI cables don’t support 3D)
Just get the least expensive cable with a decent build quality. A few $$’s cable is all that is needed. The myth that some high end cable manufacturers are still plying only really relate to analogue cables where signal quality did effect video quality. hdmi is digital, 1’s and 0’s, so there is no real benefit to expensive cables. Therefore just get one which doesn’t look like it will fall to pieces easily.
THERE IS NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO DIFFERENCE AT ALL! just buy a regular cable with 1.4 standard
I got a 3D plasma tv MHz for Christmas . I picked up a $100 monster hdmi cable and a $9 high speed hdmi from a local store. I watched the same 3d movie with both cables. I could not tell any differents.
my friend has 1 that costs $2 that works fine, hdmi cables are ripoff
A couple of microns of gold won’t make any difference..
In fact even cheap ones have gold plating on their pins, as a rule..
Gold is used on contacts on nearly everything these days because it is inert and therefore won’t corrode and cause bad connections.
Cables and accessories is where electrical shops make their big money

Yes ,if it is rated at V 1.4 it should cover the extra high definition 3D stuff as well..
Remember though, if you need long cables (like over 3 meters), then they will be thicker, using heavier copper wires to keep the losses down
So I bought a 2m one for $20.. It has a layer of gold coating too.. Works fine so far.. couldn’t tell any difference from the older cable.
