Hard disk capicity

August 5th, 2016

Does anyone know how to use your hard disk complete ?
For example, when I have an disk of 320 gb, it’s only 300 gb…when I have an disk of 120gb, is shows only 110 gb…
Is this an windows issue, or is there a way to use all of it?
Thanks !

I know, i got a 1TB but only 936gb is shown. Something to do with the bytes and what have you.

Hdd capacities make 1gb as 1000mb, instead of 1024, so there is always less space than you’d expect.

And is there not an solution to manual enter the sectors etc… to use the complete disk ? Thanks for the reply’s mates !

This is correct. You’re not getting jipped out of 20 gb, it’s just a conversion factor of 1024=1000. There’s no way around it to get your “extra space” back.

that how it is, they need some mb for temp file for os system

It’s just the companies trying to make it look bigger than it really is. They dont use the 1024 bytes = kbyte etc. that we know, they go for the kilo as in 1000.
Answer #8
Its the marketing talk. It sounds better to say BUY A 1TB DRIVE than but a 936gb drive. It’s the age old “scam” The makers of the drives think in this way, they can sell more when it sounds bigger.

All of my Qubes (TeraStations) are exactly 1010GB.

they should be 1024gig
as everyone say , that’s because they are count as kilo(1000) instead of 1024 (byte)
