Format hardrive

November 12th, 2013

Without getting into too much information I used partition changer and my 1tb external ntfs hard drive to a logical partition, which basically separates the hard drive into different sections, now I want to format it and it won’t let me, I did recover all my files, but it won’t let me format the hard drive so I can put stuff on it again.
Can anyone help please?
Very grateful.

Hiren’s BootCD 10 > Partition Tools > Acronis Disk Director..Delete the existing partition..Create a new partition..Primary..It should be set active by default..
Answer #2
Use the Disk Management Console (start > run > diskmgmt.msc) or a 3rd party app like Acronis Disk Director.
If you still have problems just ask
Answer #3
you can’t format the OS or boot partition in windows Disk Management
you will need to follow lionden’s instructions after booting from Hiren’s
and a drive can have at least 4 primary partitions
logical partition
an extended partition can be split into logical partitions but if you loose the extend partition all logical partitions will be gone as well
that’s why, among other reasons, I use only primary partitions

I agree with ed on that. I’ve been using only primary partitions since the year dot and never had any HD related problems.

I know that, but the OP is talking about an external drive.
