External Hard Drive is not working
August 4th, 2016
Currently it was not working.
Not showing on either on Disk management or My Computer.
When i tried to connect the drive to pc or laptop through usb,led is blinking and i can able to feel the hard drive running.
But it was not showing on My Computer.
Tried it on PC and Laptop but same problem.
Anyway to recover the files?
Not showing on either on Disk management
You mean not at all, Or that it’s recognized but without any drive letters assigned to it?
Not at all.
When i connected my external drive,i can’t able to open Disk management.
I see.
Does it appear on device manager under “disk drives”?
Also, Check the event viewer log for errors/warnings.
The drive controller is probably shot. The system sees it as being there but can’t determine what it is.
You could try removing the drive from the case and plugging it into your computer directly to see if it works then, bypassing the USB interface on the drive, but this is an unlikely cure.

Another possibility is to replace the enclosure. But either way, It may or may not be doable depending on how it was made. Sometimes, In order to save money, HDD makers choose to integrate the USB interface directly into the PCB (And not in a separate, Detachable adapter) and if that’s the case, Then both options would be off the table. Anyways, The only reason I haven’t mentioned it myself is because I wanted to first see if there was another way to go about it (To save the OP the extra effort)
but this is an unlikely cure.
There’s still a chance it’d work tho (And the OP got nothing to lose, Well, Apart from the warranty if it’s still valid, But the data is more important I’d say!)
Have U tried Unplugging all the leads power cable etc;
I had that happen to me couple times.
And U could try resetting windows to reinstall drivers
ED: so the external works only windows does not recognise ?
Well if its that bad consider a re install of your OS or
this might be of interest;

I think Hard drive is dead.
I Removed the external cover.
Hard Drive was connected with Connecter(USB to Drive). Then i removed the connecter.
Then i directly connected it to computer through SATA cable.
Computer showing as Local Disk(F but i can’t able to open it.
Then i tried with HDD Regenerate software.
It shows lots of bad sector and i can’t able to repair it.
I assume it has it’s own power supply (not a portable) ?
Just a possibility that it’s sick.
Did you power the drive from your PC ?

Bad sectors cannot be repaired (As they’re a physical problem!)
Anyways, You could use try using file scavenger (A data recovery app) it has the ability to ignore bad sectors, So you might be able to get some of your data back! (But if it won’t do the trick, Then it’s pretty much a total loss, Unless you’ll be willing to invest a small fortune for professional data recovery at least!)
I assume it has it's own power supply (not a portable)
Actually, It is a portable (2.5″) and as such, Is USB powered (Without an AC adapter) in it’s original form.
You could just Google it next time instead of making assumptions (Just a thought!)
Did you power the drive from your PC ?
I believe this much is obvious. How else would he have powered it if he connected it directly to his PC?
It generally works like this: 2.5/3.5 HDD>Detachable USB Interface Adapter (Attaches to both the data & power connectors, And provides either a USB port or USB+AC Input Jack if 3.5) so it’s technically impossible to power it any other way when connecting it directly, As it’d just have the ordinary SATA Data/Power connectors after the adapter is removed.
If diskmgmt.msc cannot see it, busted disk controller. Go RMA
