DVD Question – please help

February 7th, 2020

Hi
Hope this question is not regarded as stupid but I haven’t been able to find an answer
on Google or other places and cannot get my head around a solution.
I have a collection of DVD’s which have been converted from AVi and MKV files.
I note that each DVD has 2 folders (audio and video).
When I insert DVD into my computer or DVD player I get normally 3 buttons, one of which is play and naturally when selected film commences. (I assume this is similar to auto run on a computer).
I have bought a media player with inbuilt 750 gig HD which I intend to connect to my TV and dispense with the use of DVD cases to store my collection.
My question is:
If I was to copy the contents of each DVD to my HD into a folder specifically named for each DVD would I be able to
play on my TV via the media player as you would, when playing through normal DVD player or would I have to reconvert DVD’s
back to AVi or MKV files for this to work?.
Any advice or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Bit of a suck it and see situation there..
Probably not, but you got nothin’ to loose by trying it
Another thing you could do is grab the appropriate VOB files for the movie and join them with a video joiner such as Boilsoft Video Joiner and then rename them with the movie name.
This should play in your media player OK..

What type of media player do you have first ?
Mine will play exact rips of DVD’s (ie VOB files in the folders you describe etc) but they are quite top end machines made in China, and mostly not available in Europe, also will play either types of 3D BR’s etc as well, with or without navigation, ie. menus.
Iboum might be able to see if your player can do it, or by reading the instruction manual itself, or just trying and seeing (on a flash drive first).

I have no idea if the cheaper end models such as WD will do this, as I have never bought one going by friends experiences, forum reviews, and the amount of posts about issues on forums such as this.
Another issue is that a 750 GB HDD will quickly fill (even with just tv show encodes. If you can upgrade the HDD to at 2 or 3GB that would be better (most won’t accept more than 3GB), or use large external drives for this connected to the media player via USB.
