Driver help

October 18th, 2013

I was trying to take off some unused programs from my laptop last week and I’ve inadvertantly messed up the drivers.
Now Youtube is very jumpy and games run incredibly slowly.
I’ve tried using some driver update apps from here but they haven’t improved things.
Laptop is a Lenovo T61, running XP.
I’m quite the amateur with computers in general……as you may have guessed.
All help and suggestions are gratefully received.
Many thanks in advance.

Answer #1
You did tried with Driver Genius, as i know it is the best for this.
Answer #2
Thanks.
I’ll give it a try and let you know.
Answer #3
check your device mgr (winkey+R then enter devmgmt.msc) to see what video adapters you have installed, think you have 2
a low quality low power usage intel and a better nvidia one
your PC should detect which to use for what
you may have messed up their switchablity
Answer #4
DraZenFILJE – Tried it and was told ‘No driver updates are available for your computer’
edwoodweb – Thanks for the advice. I got the device manager up but can’t find a specific one labelled ‘Video adapter’ in any part of the expandable lists. I can see lots of Intel stuff but nothing for Nvidia.
Answer #5
Try installing this driver, then again go to device manager to see is there something under Video/display adapters:
download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/7kd173ww.exe
Answer #6
Ok……so did that. After ‘unpacking’ (is that even the right term?) a window says ‘Installshield wizard complete……….clicking finish does not start the installation process. Refer to installation instructions to complete’
The device manager tree, under ‘Display adapters’ lists ‘Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family’ twice.
I have no idea how to start installation process though.

Try this:
Start Windows XP, 2000 and logon with administrative privileges.
Double-click the driver package to extract it to your hard drive.
The default location is C:\DRIVERS\WIN\DISPLAY
Click Start, then click Run…
Specify “SETUP.EXE” with the full path name where you extracted the package in step 2, and click OK.
Example: C:\DRIVERS\WIN\DISPLAY\SETUP.EXE
For unattended installation, type C:\DRIVERS\WIN\DISPLAY\SETUP -n -s and click OK.
When the Welcome window appears, click Next.
At the Software License Agreement screen, if you agree, click Yes.
At the Select Components screen, click Express.
At the Setup Complete screen, select Yes, I want to restart my computer now.
Click Finish, then reboot the system.

I’ll give it a try in the morning as I’m falling asleep at the keyboard.
I really appreciate your help, DraZenFILJE.
Thanks again.
