download a file in parts

No it’s not, ask from the uploader to give you links with smaller files, if you use a download manager (I use jdownloader 2) you could take advantage of the pause / resume function if the filehost server (the service you are d/ling from i.e. uploaded(dot)net) supports resumable downloads.
I read something about Curl but I couldn’t get it working. I’m pretty sure it’s possible but still can’t figure out how.
It’s not a matter of software, if the service you are downloading from doesn’t support resume you just can’t pause and continue later. curl does indeed support resume (so is wget, jdownloader 2 and a ton of other managers, with GUI or not) but the server you are d/ling from must support it too.
You can’t split a download part into multiple smaller downloads
Torrents might be a more beneficial solution to your problem since it allows for a greater control over the amount downloaded.
The server does support resume but since the computers are installed with Deepfreeze, I can’t continue download using download manager other days.
Can you download to an external drive or usb stick and then resume?

Yes, if you d/l or copy the temporary files to a flash disk you can resume the download.
How should I do it? I used IDM but apparently it’s not possible in IDM.

It depends on whether the filehoster allows resumable downloads
For example, rapidgator and uploaded do not (unless you have a premium account), which means that no matter what software you are using, you cannot pause the download, only stop and restart from the beginning

For jdownloader for Windows copying the temp file from the download folder (in the form of .part file) does the trick. Pasting it back to the folder will allow you to resume.

You’d be better off asking someone to get the link for you and they’d be able to split it into parts that you can then download.
I’d do it if you PM me the link.
