Disk space needed

August 26th, 2013

Recently had to restore my laptop using the provided disk they gave, but when done this it seems to have all the stuff i had on before it as my memory is the same. I think there is close to 60/70gb of memory been used and i cant locate. anyone have any software that can detect this or know how to go about doing it myself…

In Windows Explorer, go Tools > Folder Options > View, and tick “Show hidden files, folders and drives”.
And while your there , Untick “Hide extensions for known file types”.
You should see stuff like pagefiles and maybe some “old” stuff that has been kept.
Also you could go to “Start” and type in ‘Disk Cleanup’ in the search bar, at the bottom, Run it and see if that helps.
And don’t forget to run CCleaner, to get rid of temporary files and stuff!

East-Tec Eraser is a great program to permanently shred and remove files, I use it myself.

Untick “hide protected operating system files” from folder options, It’s probably “System volume information (system restore folder) taking most of the space.

How is this relevant? The OP just wanna free up some space, Not erase files beyond recovery.
Answer #5
CCleaner can delete all the system restore points except the most recent one.
