dell inspiron 15

Hey guys. I am trying to get a dell inspiron 15 laptop to work. When i turn it on the led power is on, the hard drive light is on, battery light on and wifi light. The battery and wifi light is a bit dim. I can’t get anything on the screen it is blank. Can’t get into bios or safe mode. DVD drive not working, like it’s not getting any power. What i have tried so far, reseat memory modules, reseat hard drive, tried a different charger, tried it without the battery..but it’s charging cause the battery light is on…tried to connect to a external monitor…nothing seems to work. Thinking maybe the mother board is dead? Any assistance will be appreciated, thanks.

Could be a RAM problem, If you got 2 sticks, Try each one standalone (Might be a bad one!)
As far as using an external monitor goes, Are you aware you should press a certain key combo in order for the laptop
to output to it? It should be FN+One of the F keys (Usually F3 or F4)

Hey roberto, i tried all of the above man…there is only one ram stick, tried it on both ports…also tried it with out any ram…same thing..

Which Inspiron 15 is it, can you be more specific, eg is it a 15R ?
Try connecting the external monitor and close the lid.

No RAM = No output!
One stick is essential.
Also, A healthy motherboard should beep without RAM sticks, So this should give you a clue as to whether it’s a motherboard
problem or not. If it does beep, Then it’s quite possible the RAM stick is shot (There’s no easy way of testing it however, Unless you got another laptop that supports the same kind of RAM to try it on!) so you may just have to take your chances and buy a new stick.

Roberto, didn’t get any beep codes with no ram in it. I have a dell studio 1555, not sure if this ram would work in it? The laptop is probably just over a year, the inspiron one. , it’s a inspiron 15, that’s what the sticker have on it, not seeing anything labeled as 15R. I tried closing the lid, nothing goes to the monitor or tv. It only has hdmi ports on the laptop. Is a inspiron 15 3521. That’s what dell site have.

Both use different types of RAM (DDR2 on the 1555, And DDR3 on the other) so no, You won’t be able to test it on it!
But if you ask me, It’s pretty much a moot point! It’s very rare for a healthy motherboard NOT to beep without RAM sticks.
It’s pretty much a standard thing that all motherboards do in such a situation. So my advice is, If it’s still under warranty, Use it! If not, Then you’re gonna have to replace the motherboard yourself! You’re gonna have to open it up and obtain the motherboard’s part number first, Then look it up on Google/eBay to find a suitable replacement.

Luckily it still under warranty, i contacted a dell person, they should come into check it in the next few days and replace the board or ram. Will let you guys know how it went, and what was the issue and resolution…txs…Motherboard replaced, everything works fine now…
