crt tv horizontal white line

August 3rd, 2016

Hey guys
I have a panasonic quintrex CRT tv which has developed screen problems…
Basically a horizontal white line (with a black screen all around) plus sometimes an image but with horizontal lines across it has appeared.
Sound and power are working fine and its not the set top digital box (as its not digital compatible) thats the problem. (i checked using a different set top box)
Sometimes when i switch it on it has perfect picture quality but after about a minute or so the screen gets horizontal lines and then the picture dissapears completely though i still get perfect sound.
Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong with it and whether its worth repairing?…its a good tv and would love to keep it a bit longer

Answer #1
see if something is interfering with(magnetic) , usually CRT’s react to them and cause picture/screen to either wobble or completely black out

thanks for the reply . This problem happend out of the blue…it was working fine one evening then next morning BAM this problem happend…nothing in its surroundings or position changed

i know you stated you checked with another setop box but did you switch cables?. try a different cable and then see if the problem solves or try another avi/dvi port if available.
Also how old is the TV. Mainly these problems occur when there is fault in the TVs PSU/Capacitors etc due to heat/cold. Usually white lines that appear are of two types basically;
1)- Lines usually cover part of the screen but not whole screen.
mostly caused by a fault on the vertical circuit, particularly capacitors ESR gone high, need to replace capacitors.
2)- Retrace lines on the CRT screen refers to horizontal lines which covers the whole screen from top to bottom but they are never straight.
So please specify which type is it.

This is probably not what you wanna hear, But if you can afford it, You’d be better off just buying a new one!
CRT TVs are way too oldschool.
Answer #5
The horizontal white means you have no vertical deflection. Can be as suggested.
Could be a faulty vertical output IC or dry joints on or around it.
Tell us the model number and I’ll look it up !

I think perhaps it might be 1) that mohatter suggested as the horizontal lines are definatley straight. Basically when i switch on the tv i get a completely clear picture for about 20-50 seconds then the screen starts acting up. If i leave the tv on the screen changes randomly from- one single straight horizontal line completely across the width of the screen, many straight horizontal lines obstructing a clear picture in the background and a completely black screen. The sound is coming through fine on all occasions. I have replaced the set top box i use a digital reciever, changed the RF leads and used a scart cable but none have made any difference. The model no is TX-25MD3 panasonic “quintrex” color tv.
