Creating Animation. Please help..

I wanna know how to make good (medium) animations … All I need is to have a small projection to a prize giving to show up the name of the winner in an animated way..
Please suggest the softwares and methods..

What sort of animation are you after? Do you want a simple sort of PowerPoint animation, or an in-depth flash animation?
