CorRupTeD RAR Files

September 22nd, 2013

I downloaded a 3-part RAR archive. (Part 1+Part 2+Part 3)
I tried to extract the ~2GB .iso file that was in the RAR archive.
I get an error message saying it is corrupt blablablah CRC error blahblahblah unexpected end of the archive blahblahblah.
MY QUESTION TO WAREZ IS:::
Is the ORIGINAL UPLOADER to blame? Or can I re-download the SAME EXACT RAR ARCHIVE from the same exact link in hopes that it will work this time?

Answer #1
You got a corrupted file/files. Try redownloading, or ask the uploader for help.
Answer #2
How could my download have been disturbed/interrupted? My internet connection never went out. I downloaded them at a steady rate of about 80KBps
Answer #3
tried repairing the archive ?
Answer #4
Many files can become corrupt while uploading and downloading. Best to just download again.
If you still get corruption messages, its probably not your fault.
Find the ISO you require from another post. ATB
Answer #5
how can i repair the archive? just so you know there is only one .iso file in the archive im talking about.
Answer #6
They can, this is why people upload them in many parts despite the fact they can add 1 whole 2GB file with premium accounts. I’ve had some failed once and to be honest I redownload them instantly before I even consider the repair options on archives. Actually is it only WinRaR that have the repair option? I can’t remember 7zip having this.
Answer #7
In many years of downloading. I have never repaired a corrupted archive successfully.
Best to download again than waste time repairing…. Good luck either way..

You need to confirm that an archive has a recovery record before repairing it otherwise it’s useless.

Try redownloading the corrupt rar.
Thats a very slow download speed these days – depending on the size of the files, the longer it takes to download the more chance you have of the data being corrupted, even though your line “never went out”
If redownloading it doesn’t work, and trying to repair doesn’t work then move on and find another source, as it’s probably a corrupt upload (for exactly the same reason as I gave earlier).
Have a read of any responses in the thread where you got the download, see if anyone else had issues.
Answer #10
Before you start re-downloading I recommend that you try and find out which archive is really corrupt because it’s not always the one which Winrar says it is. You could re-download an archive and it still might not extract.
RS links, love them or hate them, can provide the md5 hash which would allow you to check your downloads to determine which is corrupt. Therefore if there were RS mirror links, get Fileuploader and use the Md5 hash option to get the RS Md5’s and save the text to a file and use that to test your archives. It would show which is okay and which is corrupt. Otherwise you could ask the upload for a file hash and say that you will post to the thread that he helped you. Otherwise they might not want to do it and if they don’t, post to the thread saying so.
