Computer Crashed – Help! – (Solved)

August 4th, 2016

My computer crashed due to jv6 powertools compacting the registry. It will go no further then the log-on screen, doesn’t load it correctly. just a win 7 blue blank screen. I tried system restore, no recovery images. I tried startup repair, does nothing. How do I reinstall win 7 without deleting my data. I read on google some about the windows.old dir, but didn’t understand what i had to do. thanks for ur time,
Answer #1
try pressing F8 before bootup, go to safe mode , then go start -> run -> msconfig and see if you can disable jv6 power tools are deinstall it / resintall it etc.
and btw. once you are in safe mode, you have normal access to the directory structure and your data, same would go for a linux live cd
Answer #2
It sounds like you could have a virus or other malware. Get your antivirus program up to date and boot into Safe Mode. Note that some viruses can hide themselves from your antivirus program in normal mode, so you really need to scan in Safe Mode. To get into Safe Mode when you first power up, hit F8 about once a second until you get the menu and select Safe Mode. Then run a full system scan.
Hope this help you, thanks!
Answer #3
safe mode doesn’t boot, none of the three modes do. safe mode, safe mode w/networking, safe mode w/command prompt. All three are blocked at the log on page
Answer #4
I would try putting the hd in a caddy if you have one(or a friend) try to access the data on another pc if you can get all that is important off and do a reformat and clean install.
Answer #5
Two choices for wiping your PC and keeping your data.
1) Use a live cd and external hard drive to recover your data – Download a Linux Boot cd, this will enable you to boot into a linux OS via a disk, you’ll then be able to browse your files and you can copy what ones you need onto a USB stick or external or other internal HDD.
2) Use a windows CD and reinstall windows, DO NOT FORMAT the HDD when the installer asks you where you want to install windows too. If you don’t format the hard drive, windows will move the old installation into the folder you mentioned ( windows.old ) , when you boot into windows after it has been reinstalled you can go to C:\windows.old and you will have al the files and directorys from your previous installation there.
