CMOS Checksum bad error !

July 26th, 2016

Hey guys. so i was watching some video and my pc randomly just shut off. when i booted it up it gave me an error saying CMOS Checksum bad. after googling a bit i found out it might be the battery so i replaced it with another battery from my other pc and still same error, if i hit load defualt settings it will start to boot the os and then shut off again.
i removed most of the hardware and still, theres also a weird noise that happens before the cmos error pops up and when its trying to boot the os. thats the hardware that i got MSI 890FXA-GD65 AM3 AMD 890FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboardv

9/10 it’s the battery. Buy a NEW one and try it, then repost. Both batteries could be dead or dying, until you try a new one there’s no point speculating.

Check all the voltages that are listed in bios to see if they are in spec.
The battery (maybe called vbatt) should be at least 2.8 volts.

It’s a problem that could have many answers., but the process of elimination can’t begin until he’s first tried a new battery.

The battery, checked with a digital multimeter, while installed and the computer UNPLUGGED from mains, MUST show 3V or a bit above that. If it shows UNDER, like 2.95V or less it is not good.
