Cant backup my computer
August 7th, 2016
Not much to go on from your post … but my first thought is the volume shadow copy has been disabled in Windows. These backup programs generally use this service to take on-the-fly backups and use MS VSC to do it.
If you want to avoid this, try Acronis True Image and create a bootable USB. I find these windows-free backups faster and more reliable in any case.
You know any other ones but smaller in size to install.

I have space my hard but program are to big for my computer most program i normally install computer is like 50-300 mb at most.

Giveaway
MiniTool Power Data Recovery Boot Disk (100% OFF)
62M download. Free right now. You create a bootable USB with it so it actually takes 0 space in the end.
If you can’t install a program because of it’s size, I assume you have external storage for your backup files.
With Get DriveImageXML what best way back back up my whole computer any way to back up my whole computer and when i want restore something it will put everything back same exact space. Do i just do back up or i see a drive to drive not sure if that similar or ddifferent and also can i do back up in safe mode with both programs.
Also with minitool power data recovery boot disk when i install and put in the activate code it show cd and look like usb but it wont let me click usb it stay on cd boot. Once i get this fiquire i have the same question as above with the other product.
The reason you don’t can’t select the USB is because you need a USB stick plugged-in
Plugin your stick and click refresh device and voila!
Recovery of whole drive: All existing files on the drive are wiped and all files from the backup are copied to the exact locations they were at when you did the backup.
Recovery of selected files: Virtually all backup programs allow you to select the location to where you want the files restored, or have them restored to their original location.
EDIT: Unfortunately the giveaway version of the program I suggested has the backup feature removed. As an alternative, find Acronis True Image bootable USB (search for “acronis true image bootable”) and use it. Create the recovery USB and you don’t need the download or app any longer so it takes 0 space in the end. The same info on recovery applies.
I think i try acronis before small file i think but when click on the icon on desktop it was trying install or something and kept saying disk space low. Any reason not to use driveimagexl.
DriveImageXML I believe does not have a live USB version. That is, you can’t boot from the computer from the usb to perform a backup / restore.
This may have changed, but I don’t see that option even in the current version.
You have to create a live cd, so if you have a dvd in your computer this works. I find that having a bootable media is essential as if Windows won’t boot, then you can’t recover.
There is a plugin for driveimagexml to go into bartpe, but if size is an issue, this isn’t a better option.
For installation, you can change the installation folder so that it doesnt’ go on C – avoiding the low space issue. And remember, it’s temporary as once you have the bootable usb, you can uninstall Acronis.
driveimagexml i was able to install let me open in safe mode all the other ones i have tried dont is ok to do back up in safe mode. With acronis true image how do i change the installation folder i have external hard drive i going to back my stuff up in and can i install the program in.
Yes, you can change the installation folder; you do it when you first install ATI, and yes you can choose the external drive. Remember after you create the bootable USB, you will be uninstalling it so you don’t have to worry about the external not being plugged later.
And yes, you can backup to the external drive.
So after you are done it will be:
1. Plugin your external backup drive
2. insert acronis TI usb and boot computer
3. Do whatever you want in Acronis – backup / restore full computer or just specified files
4. when you quit acronis, the system will reboot With DriveImageXML, you can create a bootable cd so it would be
1. plugin the external backup drive
2. drop the cd into the drive and boot the computer
3. Do whatever you want in Acronis – backup / restore full computer or just specified files
4. when you quit acronis, the system will reboot
Obviously the CD is slower and not an option for all of my systems as I’ve ditched the DVD drives in most of them.
