Can my motherboard support this Nvidia videocard?

December 25th, 2013

My friend is selling me a Palit GeForce GT 430 1024mb 128bit DDR3 for only $15. Here is the link for specs: http://www.palit.biz/palit/vgapro.php?id=1398
And my motherboard is:
http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_775/P5VD2VM_SE/#overview
But this motherboard is made from 2006 (or maybe 2003?) and I don’t know if it will support the videocard. I know $15 isn’t that much but I also don’t want my whole computer get broken because of a not-compatible vc
My current is a Inno3D GeForce 8800GT, it’s old and I really want to get new ones

Answer #1
yup, it’ll fit
it’s a PCI-e card and your mobo has a PCI-e slot
Answer #2
Thanks but is there anything else to worry about? Like molex connectors? Decrease in performance?

2007
praetor11 replied: Like molex connectors?
GT430 does not require additional power and uses even less power than your current,So nothing to worry about in these regards.
praetor11 replied: Decrease in performance?
Absolutely,8800GT>GT430,It’d be a downgrade,Not an upgrade!
To be honest,If your serious about gaming,A complete overhaul would be needed,Anything else would be a waste of time.
Answer #4
@Roberto400
Can you please suggest a better Videocard than the 8800GT? That has slight price difference than gt430?
I’m not really updated when it comes to PC hardwares
Edit: Do you think this will work? Palit GT 450 128-bitDDR5
http://www.palit.biz/palit/vgapro.php?id=1509
And the motherboard’s PCI-e is 1.0 and not 2.0, any complications on that?
Answer #5
I can’t make any suggestions without knowing where your from & what your budget is,But I maintain:
A complete overhaul would be needed,Anything else would be a waste of time.
There’s a correlation between the CPU to the Video card,An old outdated CPU can easily bottleneck a high end video card.
Answer #6
No don’t worry about the CPU I have Intel Q6600 2.4ghz the bottleneck really is the videocard

Answer #8
gtx 460 would be a nice upgrade for not too much cash.
Answer #9
That’s a fairly solid CPU,However it’d still be a bottleneck at stock,You should get an aftermarket CPU cooler and overclock it.
The GTS450 would still be a downgrade from your current,And again,I can’t recommend anything til you specify your
country and maximum budget,And yes there might be complications because of your PCI-E revision (1.0A),PCI-E 2.0 cards
are fully compatible with 1.1,But not all of em are compatible with 1.0/1.0A.
Answer #10
gts450 should be faster than a 8800gt and about on par with 9800gtx. still not the gratest upgrade.

Your right,I just got the model confused,He was actually asking about the GT 450 and not the GTS,My statement still holds true in that regards.
Answer #12
There is no GT460 in stock but the GT440 they have is a DDR5 and that will be faster right? Crysis 2 on medium-high?
And I am not a hardcore player, I always get bored with PC games especially if it’s a single player only
Answer #13
GTX 460 not gt460
What website are you looking at?
And no the GT440 wont be a good buy.
If you are looking for low prices and need a decent upgrade in performance then you are going to be better looking at 2nd hand card from ebay.
You could likely grab a GTX275 or 280.
What PSU are you using?
Answer #14
What? The specs are really good check it out GT440 here:
www.palit.biz/palit/vgapro.php?id=1509
My PSU has 550W and I think it’s good enough
And if you want to know the website of the shop:
http://tipidpc.com
If the website won’t load I think your IP is blocked by the website
I don’t want high-end videocards they sometimes hinder my school studies and I can’t stop when I know I can play all of the PC games!

There is no card named the GT 450.
Anyway, if you plan on overclocking a Q6600 be prepared to dish out some really good cooling. Those things were mini nukes back in the day.

Yep,I just got confused because he mentioned GT450 and I just automatically assumed that if it would be slightly better than the 430 it’d still suck,I should’ve checked the link,I only later on realized he linked to the 440.
praetor11 replied: What? The specs are really good check it out GT440 here:
It’s not about the specs,It’s about the GPU itself,And this will certainly be a downgrade,Anyways I give up on this thread,This is clearly not gonna go anywhere,Your very stubborn and can’t be convinced otherwise.
praetor11 replied: My PSU has 550W and I think it's good enough
For the card in question,It probably is as it’s not very demanding,But I would like to point out that watts don’t mean anything,It’s all about the brand & amper rating.

I LOLd hard. If you have no self control then you have a much bigger problem on your hands.
Answer #17
Very sure. the GT 440 will be a waste of your time.
The problem is there are no cards for such a low price that will offer a worthwhile performance boost over your current card.
You will need to go for second hand or just stick with what you have got until you have enough cash to buy a card that is actually a decent amount faster than the 8800.
If you must buy then stretch to the GTS 450.
I would advice a 460 but the 450 should still give a decent noticeable improvement for you.
Hope that helps.

I will finally decide to choose Inno3d GT440 as my next buy. The specs should be a big difference and I’m not being stubborn about it it’s about always to choose higher specs than choosing up-to-dater ones but I doubt everyone cares now >_>
8800 GT:
Memory 1GB GDDR3
Core Frequency 600MHz
Memory Frequency 1800MHz
RAMDAC 400MHZ
Interface PCI-Express 2.0
Memory Bus 256-bit
Stream Processors 112
GT 440:
CUDA cores 96
Graphics Clock (MHz) 810
Processor Clock (MHz) 1620MHz
Memory Clock (MHz) 3200MHz
Max Memory Amount 1GB GDDR5
Memory Interface 128 bit
Memory Bandwidth (GB/sec) 51.2
Texture Fill Rate (billion/sec) 6.5
Answer #19
Nah, you are stubborn. Going to a 440 from an 8800 is a DOWNGRADE.

You serious?
I thought you wanted to improve your games performance.
You just want something with more modern ram and a higher gpu clock speed?
Crazy people.
Answer #21
hardware spec’s are for suckers
it’s performance that counts
j_juf, rob and others have told you the straight dope on the cards you mentioned and the 8800GT has the best performance
http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html
performance specs
GT 440
Memory Bandwidth (GB/sec) 51.2
Texture Fill Rate (billion/sec) 6.5 (12.9)
8800GT
Memory Bandwidth (GB/sec) 57.6
Texture Fill Rate (billion/sec) 33.6

the only thing you give up with the 8800GT is DX 11
Answer #22
if it fits in the slot (pcie OR AGP just one) then yes!
Also check vga power requirements!
Answer #23
Another lost case. Meh.
Answer #24
More fool him to be honest.
He was given the correct information about graphics card but decided to ignore it.
Some people need to learn the hard way lol.
Answer #25
The 8800 has a slightly better performance then the gt 440.
once you use the card you will notice. i would recommend listening to people here as alot of them know what they are talking about.
