Can i leave windows update off?

Sure you can, it’s the first thing I do when I reinstall pc.
You can disable it but it’s not recommended.

You also see lots of threads of people that don’t know how to download stuff, much less install it.
I installed my Windows 7 Ultimate x64 back in 2009, updated to SP1, plus all the other updates, and its still activated just fine.
I recommend you set it to “Notify me before downloading or installing updates”!
Then you can see which updates it is, and download/update them when your not using your internet/cpu (in other words, when your ready to do it, not when Windows is ready).

Fail!
I really dont see any advantage to the updates other than getting spanked by microsoft……..as it seems to run fine right now i think i’ll disable it….
Windows must be updated to insure a better experience and protection.
Well im not sure on the “protection’ part as i keep my last os (xp) updated to a tee, and had the “security essentials” and still got hijacked on 2 different occations……so i dont see how going commando could work out any worse…..
I can’t except it to be bulletproof.

Hell, it’s not even BB gun proof in my experiance……
