Can I install Windows XP Pro off a 1GB flash drive

August 5th, 2016

Is 1GB enough space to be able to boot from a flash drive and install windows xp pro. Think my CR-ROM broke.. Also my 4GB flash drive broke to (Around the same time )
I tried using Wintoflash with my 1GB flash drive but it wasn’t picking up operating system.. I excluded everything in the boot order except USB flash drive.

If i’m not mistaken, Windows XP fits on a CD with a size of 700MB, right? It should work on a 1GB flash drive.
Edit: Maybe this can help?

Lets begin the guide without wasting time. Just make sure that you have a pen drive with 4GB + capacity if you are making a bootable USB flash drive.
Pen drive with 4GB+ (2 GB is sufficient for XP)
I assumed 1Gig would be enough but according to various sites I either need 2 or 4GB

Yes, you can. Make sure you format your USB stick properly beforehand, because if you don’t – it may not be bootable.
HP provides a set of tools for this purpose, and they work on other brands as well:

You can use that tool to format your USB drive and sort your operating system out on it. If you’re unsure, hit up a search in the helpdesk section about bootable USB sticks, I’ve seen many passing by the past months. Good luck.
