Camcorder advice please – is yours good?

I’ve decided to start putting stuff up on Youtube and I want it to look good and as professional as I can but I am broke and don’t have a job at the moment so I am going to have to save a lot I know.
One of the things I’ve noticed is the sound is often not so good so I think I need a camera with an external mic I can attach? I can’t afford one of those posh Sony jobbies with the top loaded mic. so please don’t suggest that one ‘cos I will just cry:-)
I am going to try to make a comedy cooking show with the camera. Any advice at all would be really really greatly appreciated.

Cheap one and works much better than most mics built into headsets etc. Maybe give it a try? Maybe adding special effects to sound and video after filming in e.g. Audacity or Sony Vegas Pro?

Thanks for that. Will check it out. Am really also very interested in getting the right camera for the job too. I’ve decided it has to be HD but which one? Have seen a lot on EBAY going cheap but can’t find any posted videos on youtube or anywhere else for them. Thanks again,
